We
are pledging to demonstrate Responsible Dog Ownership by picking up
after our dogs and others as needed.
We
are prepared to do Responsible Dog Owner education through newsletters
and peer counseling.
Unruly
dogs will be asked not to come back to dog areas by their peers or if
need be by law enforcement until they have earned their Canine
Good Citizen Certificate a program locally administered by Monterey
Bay Dog Training
Cooperation
is often the key to success. With enough support we can make dog parks
a reality in Capitola. Let local decision makers know that you are not
only a dog owner, but a taxpayer and a voter, and that you'll support
candidates who understand that dogs and their people have the right
to use the public recreational facilities for which they help pay. We
are legitimate park users - don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

With
a new favorable city council, we can create a special designation for
dogs on the beach. We can also support parks designated for canine good
citizens!

What
Would I Do Without the Dog Park?, by Becky Bailey
"There
is no doubt that dog owners deserve to share in the 'park pie'... Dogs
contribute immeasurably to their family's quality of life, thus helping
to foster a sense of community for everyone. Making dog parks a priority
creates positive community spirit."

Parks are cropping up everywhere. 460 dog parks are listed by
dogpark.com with 22 new parks last month! There are over 80 listed dog
parks and dog areas in parks in California.
E-mail
us! to say you support Capitola dogs in parks!
Consider
designated dog hours on the beaches and parks in Capitola. Our city
pumps an enormous amount of our tax resources
into making the beach clean for the tourists, but dog
owner citizens are not allowed to walk our dogs on public
land or have dog sporting events in the parks.
What exactly is
the reason for not allowing dogs in our parks and beaches? If the reason
for banning dogs from our parks is to keep the park clean, then we as
dog owners have great incentive to pick up after our dogs and make this
rationale a non-issue. If the rationale is that dogs are not trustworthy,
then we have the responsibility of training
our dogs to be under our vocal control.
Take Action!
E-mail
us your support. You can make a difference. Just let us know
that you support off leash hours at the beach and in the parks. We will
collect the responses at a grass roots level to support dog hours at
the beach and parks and pass the mail along to the city council once
we have "critical mass". Let's make Capitola a Dog Friendly
town.
